A great start in the new school year!
We have had an outstanding first quarter due to the Blessings of Allah SWT and combined efforts of our students, parents, faculty and staff. Our students have been busy with many activities, including NHS/NJHS Induction Ceremony, SGO Breast Cancer Awareness Week, Hajj Program, Eid Spirit Day, a variety of field trips, extracurricular activities, and, for our new students, adjusting to a new school. Alhamdulillah, our students worked very hard on the MEAPs during the second week in October. The MEAPs gauge the performance of elementary and middle school students from 3rd grade to 9th grade. All these students are assessed in the subjects of math, reading and writing, and some grades are also assessed in science and social studies. We hope to receive student results in the early spring. MIA students have consistently excelled in the state standardized testing, receiving scores comparable

MSA-United Going with Two Fine Teams
The Muslim Soccer Association - United (MSA-United) is continuing to play very well in their league. Their rivals are highly competitive soccer clubs in the Ann Arbor area, including the Dexter Bulldogs and the Michigan Tigers, among others. MSA-United is currently in its second season, and a new team has been added for boys under 10 years of age, the Gold 1 team. Both Royal 1 (for boys age 10-11) and the Royal 2 team (for boys age 11-12) are doing very well during this season! For further information about this stellar club, please contact info@msaunited.com.

PTO Updates
The MIA Parent Teacher Organization is raising funds for the improvement of technological and instructional equipment, especially for math and science classes. Jezakum Allahu Khairan to the parents, staff, students, and contributors who have made these educational purchases possible. More volunteers are needed to make this program most beneficial for all our children. If you would like to be involved with the MIA PTO, please contact the president of the PTO, Sr. Faten Alkassem, at pto@mia-aa.org. The PTO is collecting BoxTops again through the end of February. The student/class with the most BoxTops will receive a prize, be sure to label your contribution with the name and grade of the student. The PTO is also collecting returnable cans and bottles in large gray bins near the trailer.

New Software! Study Island and Reading Eggs
MIA is excited to announce our investment in purchasing online licenses for Study Island’s. Reading Eggs and The Islands. Study Island is a leading provider of State and Common Core Standards-based assessment, engaging instruction, and test-preparation software programs for K-12 students. Please encourage your child to take advantage of Study Island on a weekly basis, as it will help to enhance his or her skills. It also increases student comfort with a high-stakes testing environment, and collects valuable data for diagnostic reports. For additional benefits of this program, please refer to the Key Benefits of Study Island section below. I would like to thank parents for continued involvement in your child’s learning. Remember, the overwhelming conclusion of parent involvement research over the years is that what parents do at home has a critical influence on student success in school.
