UNIFORM POLICY FOR STUDENTS Students must be in the correct uniform to attend class. In case of violation of this policy, the parent/guardian will be called and expected to correct uniform deficiencies before the student may return to class. Michigan Islamic Academy will be using the following uniform suppliers:

Abayas and hijab for girls in Grades 5 – 12 may be purchased WITH LOGO from East Essence or Sr. Anisa. She can be contacted at (425)- 623-9314.

Regular School Day Uniform:

Footwear for all students:  All students must wear plain, solid black, soft soled, closed toe, low-heeled flats, tennis shoes, dress, or canvas shoes without any other color. A small, discreet brand name is acceptable. Soles may be black or white. Laces must be black or white. Students may wear any color socks which cover the ankle and are not sheer; footie socks are not permitted. 

BoyKG – Grade 12 – Plain, loose fitting, navy or black DRESS pants (no jeans, sports pants, pants with stretchy cuffs, tight or sagging pants), Gray Polo long/short sleeve WITH LOGO, Plain Navy Sweater, vest or Hoodie WITH LOGO. All Uniform items must be ordered from Land’s End. Jewelry is not acceptable for boys.

Boys must have a plain haircut, no unusual styles or color. Hair must not be touching the collar, sticking up straight, undercut or sculpted, no Qaza styles (no shaving or cutting the hair on one part of the head very short while leaving the rest of the hair long).

Girls KG – 4th Grade Plain Navy Jumper WITH LOGO and white long/short-sleeved blouse or plain navy dress WITH LOGO from Land’s End must be worn. Girls must wear white or navy tights, or navy leggings from Land’s End, with any color socks. PLAIN Navy sweat-pants may be worn only in winter. Sweaters, hoodies and vests worn in the classroom must have LOGO and be from LAND’S END.  Jewelry of any kind is strongly discouraged.

Girls 5th – 12th Grade  Plain navy  or black ankle length Abaya/Kurti which MUST have the MIA LOGO. Under the ankle length abaya any plain navy or black pants or leggings may be worn (no jeans); under mid-calf length Kurti, the matching uniform pants must be worn.  Girls have a choice of navy Sweater, vest, blazer, or Hoodie WITH LOGO from Land’s End. The hijab for Middle and High School girls may be any style, plain white or light gray with a plain white or grey underpiece.  A small amount of discreet jewelry is permitted, but not encouraged.  Make-up or nail-polish is not acceptable.

As Friday is a special day for Muslims, this is an occasion to dress up according to the Friday Dress Code.

Boys from Pre-K to Grade 12 may wear any color dress shirt (collar and buttons) and any color loose fitting dress pants. Thobes and Shalwar Kamees are also permitted. No T-shirts, jeans, pajamas, sweat pants or sports pants and dress shoes are permitted. Shoes must be soft soled, closed toe and low heeled; any color is allowed.

Girls from Pre-K to Grade 5 may wear dresses or skirts that are knee length or longer with tights, trousers or leggings underneath.  Loose trousers with long shirts (knee length for grade 3 and up) are also permitted.  Any color dress shoes are allowed.

Girls from Grade 6- 12 may wear any color Abaya or Jilbab with any color scarf. Plain pants must be worn underneath. Mid-calf length Kurti with matching pants are also permitted. No leggings or jeans. Shoes must be soft soled, closed toe and low heeled (less than 1.5 inches); any color is allowed.

UNIFORM VIOLATIONS:

For All Offenses: If a student is not in proper uniform, he/she must wait in the office until the parent brings or buys a proper uniform. Incidents will be reported on FACTS/LMS.

  • First Offense – removal from class until uniform is provided, parent notification
  • Second Offense – 2 weeks loss of Friday Dress privilege, parent notification
  • Third Offense –  4 weeks loss of Friday Dress privilege, parent notification
